Make the affected part of your property manageable
Unstable material first
We assess hanging limbs, splits and tension before moving storm debris.
Essential access prioritised
Blocked drives and paths can be addressed before less urgent clearance areas.
Remaining damage checked
We inspect the standing tree once fallen material no longer hides the problem.
Treat split and tensioned timber with care
High winds can leave a whole tree down, one main limb torn out or a branch caught in another part of the crown. The mess on the ground is often only part of the problem. Split stems, suspended limbs and bent timber may still be under tension, so they can move suddenly when cut or disturbed. Keep people away and contact us with a safe description of what has happened. Photographs from a distance can show blocked access, nearby structures and remaining tree damage. We assess unstable material before cutting, then plan how sections can be controlled and moved without creating another hazard.

Clear access and inspect what remains standing
Storm clearance begins by isolating the affected area and dealing with unstable sections. We can then cut, move and clear fallen branches or trunk material according to the agreed scope. Reopening a path or drive may be the first practical goal, particularly where the rest of the site can wait. Once debris is controlled, we inspect the standing tree for torn attachments, imbalance or further failure. Additional pruning, complete removal and stump work can form separate follow-on tasks. For storm damaged trees in Selsey, call us to confirm availability and don't attempt to free trapped branches yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Can we start moving fallen branches ourselves?
Stay clear if branches are suspended, trapped, split or under tension. Moving one piece can release another without warning. You can describe the scene from a safe position, but leave unstable timber undisturbed until it has been assessed.
What photographs are useful after a storm?
From a safe distance, show the whole affected tree, the failed section and anything beneath or beside it. Include blocked access and visible splits if these can be photographed without approaching unstable material. Never stand under a hanging branch.
Does clearance include work on the remaining tree?
The quotation will define what is included. Initial clearance may deal with fallen and unstable material only. Further pruning, complete tree removal or stump grinding may be recommended and planned separately after the remaining structure is visible.
